What is the "VW bonnet"?
"VW bonnet" is the popular Brazilian term for the excess fat on the mons pubis, the pubic region just above the intimate area. In my practice, I receive many patients who complain about this prominent volume, visible under tight clothing, bikinis, and gym trousers.
How do you perform pubic liposuction?
I perform the procedure through two small openings of about 1 cm in the region. First, I infiltrate a tumescent solution with saline and adrenaline to minimise bleeding. Then, I use thin cannulas to aspirate the fat from the superficial and deep layers, ensuring the best possible result.
Is pubic liposuction definitive?
Yes, in my experience, the results are long-lasting. The fat cells that I remove do not return. However, I advise my patients to maintain a stable weight, as the remaining cells may increase in volume with significant weight gain.
Is the scar from pubic liposuction visible?
In the vast majority of cases, no. I close the openings with an absorbable internal stitch and cyanoacrylate glue, eliminating the need for stitch removal. The scars become practically imperceptible after complete healing.
Can pubic liposuction be combined with other surgeries?
Yes, and this is a combination I frequently perform. Depending on the case, I associate mons pubis liposuction with a pubic lift (pubopexy), labiaplasty, reduction of the labia majora, or abdominoplasty — especially to harmonise the entire lower abdominal region.
Can men also have pubic liposuction?
Yes. In men, the accumulation of pubic fat can "bury" the penis, impairing both appearance and sexual function. In my experience, male pubic liposuction yields very satisfactory results, significantly improving the contour of the area.
What anaesthesia is used?
I use total intravenous general anaesthesia, the same that I employ in all my procedures. This way, the patient undergoes a safe, painless surgery with rapid anaesthetic recovery, being discharged on the same day.
What is the recovery like after pubic liposuction?
The recovery is quite smooth. I recommend that my patients wear a compression garment for two months, start lymphatic drainage on the fifth day, and endermology on the tenth day. I advise a month without physical activity and without sexual relations. Most return to work the following day.
When do the final results appear?
In my experience, the results begin to become apparent around the third week. At two months, the area significantly reduces in swelling — this is when I take the first post-operative photos. The final result can be appreciated around the sixth month.
From what age can I have pubic liposuction?
Normally, I see patients from the age of fifteen to sixteen, when bodily development is practically complete. Each case is evaluated individually in the consultation so that I can indicate the best time and approach.
