My journey in plastic surgery: the masters who shaped my career

I am Dr. Walter Zamarian Jr., a board-certified plastic surgeon in Londrina, Brazil. CRM-PR 17,388 | RQE 15,688. Ivo Pitanguy Clinic: where it all began

My plastic surgery training was at the Ivo Pitanguy Clinic — the 38th Infirmary of Santa Casa in Rio de Janeiro. It is, without question, the most prestigious plastic surgery school in the world. Professor Pitanguy did not teach just surgical technique: he taught a philosophy of respect for the patient, of ethics, of pursuing excellence and naturalness. Every surgeon who graduates from Pitanguy carries this foundation for life. It was there that I operated on my first thousands of cases, under the guidance of Brazil's finest plastic surgeons. The discipline, rigor, and humanistic vision of Prof. Pitanguy are the foundation of everything I do today.

Dr. Tim Marten: the master of the Deep Plane Facelift

Dr. Tim Marten, of San Francisco, is widely considered the world's foremost expert in the Deep Plane facelift. I had the privilege of training directly with him in the United States, observing his surgical cases and learning every detail of the Deep Plane technique. Dr. Marten developed and refined the approach that forms the foundation of my work today: sub-SMAS dissection with release of all four facial retaining ligaments, vertical elevation of the deep structures, and comprehensive neck treatment. This training completely transformed my surgical practice.

Dr. Mike Nayak: refinement and deep neck lift

Dr. Mike Nayak, of St. Louis, is another world-renowned expert in facial rejuvenation. My training with him deepened my knowledge of the deep neck lift and complementary techniques to the Deep Plane. With Dr. Nayak, I refined my approach to neck treatment — platysmaplasty, subplatysmal fat removal, digastric muscle treatment, and submandibular gland management. Each of these details makes the difference between a good result and an exceptional one.

Dr. Gary Alter: female intimate surgery of excellence

Dr. Gary Alter, of Los Angeles, created the Wedge technique for labiaplasty — the most advanced approach to female intimate surgery. I trained directly with him in the USA, learning not only the surgical technique but the sensitivity and care this specialty demands. Today I am one of the few surgeons in Brazil who performs the original Wedge technique as taught by Dr. Alter, offering patients functional and aesthetic results of the highest standard.

SBCP, ASPS, and continuous education

I am a full member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP), the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), and the Association of Prof. Ivo Pitanguy's Alumni (AExPI). I regularly attend national and international congresses, keeping permanently updated with advances in the specialty. A plastic surgeon's education never ends. Every congress, every exchange with colleagues, every challenging case is an opportunity to evolve. My patients deserve that I am always at the best level possible.
