What is a FUPA?
FUPA stands for "Fat Upper Pubic Area" and refers to excess fat in the mons pubis, the area just above the genitalia. In my practice, I see many patients who are bothered by this prominent bulge, visible under tight clothing, swimwear, and workout leggings.
How do you perform pubic liposuction?
I perform the procedure through two small incisions of approximately 1 cm. First, I infiltrate a tumescent solution with saline and epinephrine to minimize bleeding. Then, I use fine cannulas to aspirate fat from both the superficial and deep layers, ensuring the best possible result.
Is pubic liposuction permanent?
Yes, in my experience, the results are long-lasting. The fat cells that I remove do not return. However, I advise my patients to maintain a stable weight, as the remaining cells can increase in volume with significant weight gain.
Is the scar from pubic liposuction visible?
In the vast majority of cases, no. I close the incisions with absorbable internal sutures and cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive, eliminating the need for suture removal. The scars become virtually imperceptible after complete healing.
Can pubic liposuction be combined with other surgeries?
Yes, and this is a combination I frequently perform. Depending on the case, I combine pubic liposuction with a mons pubis lift, labiaplasty, labia majora reduction, or abdominoplasty -- especially to create a harmonious contour throughout the entire lower abdominal region.
Can men also have pubic liposuction?
Yes. In men, accumulated pubic fat can partially conceal the penis, impairing both appearance and sexual function. In my experience, male pubic liposuction yields very satisfying results, significantly improving the contour of the area.
What type of anesthesia is used?
I use total intravenous general anesthesia (TIVA), the same approach I employ in all my procedures. This ensures a safe, painless surgery with rapid anesthetic recovery, and patients are discharged the same day.
What is the recovery like after pubic liposuction?
Recovery is remarkably smooth. I recommend that my patients wear a compression garment for two months, begin lymphatic drainage massage on the fifth day, and endermologie on the tenth day. I advise one month without physical activity and sexual intercourse. Most patients return to work the very next day.
When do the final results appear?
In my experience, results begin to become apparent around the third week. At two months, the area has significantly less swelling -- this is when I take the first postoperative photographs. The final result can be fully appreciated around the sixth month.
What is the minimum age for pubic liposuction?
I typically treat patients starting at age fifteen to sixteen, once physical development is nearly complete. Each case is evaluated individually during the consultation so that I can recommend the best timing and approach.
