Choosing who will care for your face is a personal decision.

You may come to me through a referral, a video, or curiosity about deep plane surgery. But I know that understanding a technique is not enough to trust the person who will perform it. You also want to understand how I think, what I value, and how you will be cared for along the way.

That is why I want to share the experiences that brought me here, and the choices I make today, in and out of the operating room.

Get to know the path that brought me here.

The way I care for patients has been shaped by my training and experience. In this video, I talk about my training and invite you to learn a little more about the person who will be by your side.

The welcome I received is also part of how I care for patients.

Beyond my surgical training, I carry a personal memory from those years in Rio: the warmth with which I was received by teachers who had known my father, who was also a plastic surgeon. Feeling welcomed in an unfamiliar setting left a lasting impression on me.

When I returned to Londrina in 2004, I began building my own way of caring for patients. I wanted anyone coming into my office to find that same welcome: to be received as a person with a story, before any conversation about surgery.

I earned my medical degree at the Universidade Estadual de Londrina (UEL), where I also completed my residency in General Surgery. In 2003, I completed postgraduate training in plastic surgery at the Centro de Estudos Ivo Pitanguy in Rio de Janeiro and received the Specialist Title from the AMB and the SBCP. I am a member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP) and an International Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

My training with Prof. Ivo Pitanguy lasted three years, at the 38th Ward of Santa Casa de Misericórdia in Rio de Janeiro and at the Clínica Ivo Pitanguy. There I learned that surgical technique goes hand in hand with a philosophy: respect for the patient, ethics and the pursuit of a natural look. I am also a member of the AExPI (Association of Former Students of Professor Ivo Pitanguy).

Over time, my practice became increasingly focused on facial surgery.

Today, deep plane facelift with fat grafting accounts for more than 90% of my surgical practice. That focus is a choice: I want to devote my time and attention to facial rejuvenation, continuing to refine my approach to deep plane facelifts and the planning of each procedure.

Along the way, I have performed more than 8,000 surgeries over more than 22 years. Today, I do an average of three deep plane facelifts with fat grafting a week, around 150 a year.

What interests me in a face goes beyond any single area. I look at how the details relate to each other, and we talk about what you want to change. The way you recognize yourself also needs to be part of that planning.

01

Listen before recommending treatment

I want to understand your priorities and the concerns that come with this decision. What first catches my eye is not always what bothers you most.

02

Examine with care

The individual examination is where I connect your expectations with the features of your face and the possibilities of surgery.

03

Explain every choice

You need to understand why I propose a particular path, where its limits lie, and what it requires in preparation and recovery.

My perfectionism keeps me looking for ways to improve.

My perfectionism begins with planning. I build a detailed surgical plan from a complete mapping of your face, then carry out each planned detail that may contribute to improving it. In the operating room, I follow a motto: “Perfect always, fast when possible.” Attention to each step is what sets my pace.

That desire to keep learning also took me to the United States and Canada. At ASAPS meetings, I learned from Tim Marten on fat grafting and from Mike Nayak on the neck. With him, I refined the neck treatment I perform today: platysmaplasty, removal of subplatysmal fat, and treatment of the digastric muscle and the submandibular gland. Their work helped me develop my approach to facial surgery.

I regularly see patients from the United States, Europe, Japan and Latin American countries.

Not all of my training was in cosmetic surgery. After an internship at Hospital do Andaraí in Rio de Janeiro, I was one of the founders of the Burn Center at the Hospital Universitário de Londrina. Caring for patients with severe burns taught me the value of meticulous planning, anticipating complications and a well-trained team, lessons I bring to the safety of every surgery.

I bring that willingness to learn to the ongoing pursuit of better results. Being exacting also has to come with honesty. I do not promise perfection or a result identical to a photograph. I want to build, with you, expectations that respect your face, your health, and the limits of surgery.

“To me, plastic surgery is a chance to be creative, like an artist. I seek balance between mind and body, and a natural result is one that looks as if the patient was born with it.”

You can call me Dr. Z and tell me your story in your own language.

I see patients in Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, and Italian. Working with international patients began during my training and continues in my practice.

I want our conversation to have room for nuance: how you describe a change, what you are afraid of losing, and what you hope to find. If you are coming from far away, speaking directly with me helps us begin that relationship before you arrive in Londrina.

You should feel that care at every step.

The rigor I bring to surgery also needs to show in the way I explain, listen, and follow up. I want you to have room for a question that seems small, for a concern that is hard to put into words, or to ask me to go over something again.

My involvement continues through follow-up after surgery. Each follow-up visit lets me assess your progress and discuss what comes next. To me, care includes that presence throughout the process.

I see patients at my clinic at Rua Engenheiro Omar Rupp, 186, in Londrina, in person or by online consultation. Surgeries are performed at Hospital do Coração Bela Suíça, also in Londrina.
